Education Partners

Girls in School
2004 Lori Waselchuck/CARE

CARE's poverty-fighting approach to learning for all focuses on the world's most vulnerable people, with a special focus on girls. Drawing strength from our global reach, experience, extensive education portfolio and partnerships, we develop innovative learning solutions and prepare educational systems to fulfill everyone's right to learn. Our work helps vulnerable learners effectively participate in schools, and prepares educational systems to meet these vulnerable students' needs.

CARE USA is currently involved in a number of coalitions designed to increase international support for basic education and the achievement of the Dakar Framework for Action.

CARE's Basic and Girls’ Education Unit works with these and other coalitions and partnerships to leverage our experience and call attention to four issues critical to the Dakar Framework and UNESCO’s Education for All mandate:

  • Raising awareness of basic education as a fundamental human right; an essential and sound investment in the future of individuals, societies, and the global community; and an international commitment that is not being met
  • Increasing funding and political support from the United States, foreign governments and the international community
  • Involving indigenous civil society organizations and community groups in developing responsive, accountable systems of educational management at the host country level
  • Including civil society in the development, implementation and monitoring of national Education for All plans
