Situation: Landslides and widespread flooding due to heavy rains from Hurricane Stan have driven thousands of people from their homes. At the same time, the eruption of El Salvador's Santa Ana volcano has forced even more people to evacuate. The total number of displaced and hungry people is now over 100,000.
Our Response: Our immediate priority is to meet the basic emergency needs of 15,000 people, with a focus on women and children living in temporary shelters. With support from the Crisis Response Team, we’re providing safe drinking water and latrines and distributing family emergency kits containing diapers, soap, towels, toilet paper and jars of baby food.
