Situation: Hurricane Alpha, the 22nd hurricane of the record-breaking 2005 season, killed five people in Haiti and displaced thousands due to landslides and flooding. Fifteen inches of rain were dumped on this impoverished country still in the process of recovering from last year's Tropical Storm Jeanne.

Our Response: CARE's ongoing post-Jeanne clean-up efforts will play a huge role in helping the people of Haiti recover from this latest storm, too. Farmers are getting help replanting ruined fields. Children are returning to school. Roads linking farms with markets are being restored, so poor families can start earning a living again. It's all happening with the help of friends like you!

Take a stand in the fight against poverty.
When disaster strikes, when poverty threatens lives, CARE is there. With staff on the ground in 66 countries, we can respond quickly — with the right kind of help. And we stay after the crisis has passed, to resume and expand our poverty-fighting work. Want to be a part of the solution? Just click here to give a gift. Your generosity will go straight to work — and have a lasting, lifesaving impact in poor communities around the world!
