WHO: CARE, the world's largest independent relief and development organization, provides land mine awareness and clearance programs in Angola and removes land mines on or near highly traveled roads in Cambodia. Land mines impede the lives of millions of those in
the developing world and CARE's humanitarian efforts.
Land mines have taken the lives of two CARE staff members in Afghanistan and wounded staff in Ethiopia and Angola.

WHAT: CARE teaches people to recognize and to avoid land mines. Through its land mine awareness and clearance program, CARE aims to reduce the number of deaths and injuries associated with land mines, to allow safe access to crucial areas such as roads and water and to identify areas of high risk.

WHERE:
Angola -- CARE operates land mine programs in two provinces: Bie and Cuando Cubango. CARE supervises teams of deminers and land mine awareness instructors as they target specific mined zones in the countryside.
Cambodia -- CARE's Roads Maintenance Program includes a demining component that allows thousands of locals access to nearby roads. Demining teams locate and mark approximately 100 pieces of unexploded weapons every week.
